family therapy
relational Family approach
As a Marriage & Family Therapist, I work from a lens of viewing individuals through their relational systems. None of us live in isolation, and our experiences in our relational systems has enormous influence on our sense of self, security, confidence and health. Family systems are perhaps the most influential dynamic, and often the hardest to navigate.
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve time-warped back to the past when you’re engaging with members of your family of origin, or no matter how much in your adult life has evolved and changed over time they still see and treat you as if you were stuck in one particular version of yourself, you may find that in at least some areas there is discomfort or distress in your family relationships. Perhaps as you’ve grown and gained distance, you find yourself reflecting on the past and running into an obstacle preventing you from achieving the understanding or healing you may need from a parent. Maybe things have not been difficult before, but now facing aging parents or losses, you find yourself at odds with your siblings or fractures in the family dynamics.
I utilize an Emotionally Focused Family Therapy approach, designed to welcome each family member the space to feel truly heard and understood by their family. Through a balanced and empathetic approach that respects every members’ humanity, I strive to build better communication, allowing families to express themselves in important ways, to learn new ways to hear and accept difficult things, to begin to update and see each other for who they are now, not then. Improved healthy communication bridges healing and fosters closer connections. Healthy family dynamics also break generational chains of distress and dysfunction, providing a more secure legacy for children and future generations.
Family therapy with more than 2 members are typically scheduled at 75 minutes for $250 per session. If all members are in agreement, family members may attend session in-person, online or a combination of both. Please contact me for further information.
